The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is a crucial foundation, especially for Vietnam and the United States to promote their cooperation, said Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Monday.
The prime minister told visiting US Trade Representative Michael Froman in capital Hanoi that Vietnam will closely work with the US in TPP negotiation, hoping that the US side will consider Vietnam's crucial benefits towards making an agreement balance in terms of interests for all country members.
He also called on the US to consider Vietnam's real conditions, especially in the garment and footwear sectors, as they are likely to confront the most challenges while Vietnam joining TPP.
Froman, for his part, said successful negotiations for the TPP will boost cooperation between the two countries, notably in the fields of economy, trade and investment.
More efforts are needed to continue discussions towards establishing specific acceptable agreements between the two countries, the website of the Vietnamese government quoted the US official as saying.
TPP is a multilateral trade pact in the Pacific region, which is being negotiated in 12 countries, namely Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States, and Vietnam.
